This stunning shot was crowned the best aerial photo of 2017

You're in for a visual treat - the winners of SkyPixel's Photo Story Contest have been revealed.

French photographer Florian Ledoux scooped the Grand Prize in SkyPixel’s Photo Story Contest for his entry Above the Polar Bear. The incredible moment a polar bear jumped across ice floes in Nunavut, Canada, was captured using his Phantom 4 Pro.

Ledoux has witnessed many powerful scenes in the wild, but the unforgettable polar bear encounter was, by far, the most beautiful thing he has ever experienced. He said: “I hope future generations will still be able to witness the beauty and grandeur of the Arctic wildlife in the same way we do today.”

“There are images that might impress you with their technical mastery, and then there are images that make you feel something.”

Jarrad Seng, a SkyPixel judge, photographer, filmmaker and creative director based in Australia was blown away by the photograph: “It’s especially poignant given the climate crisis our world is facing right now. There are images that might impress you with their technical mastery, and then there are images that make you feel something.”

Running from October to December 2017, the contest – which is organised by aerial photography community SkyPixel in cooperation with drone company DJI – received over 44,000 submissions from participants in 141 countries.

Photographs could be entered into three categories – Landscape, Portrait or Story. In addition to the Grand Prize, each main category also consists of a First, Second and Third Prize from both the professional and enthusiast groups.
