Jumps: The Ghost is better for going bigger but the YES Standard is better for going small to medium while still being forgiving. We dont feel its a 7 out of 10 but more like a 5 out of 10. JavaScript is disabled. Its got a nice wide platform underfoot that is stable for take-offsand landings. Turning/Carving: These days its not quite as exciting as it used to be but thats mainly because many boards in the industry have added boards with a little more camber and a little less rocker but its still fun. Now that the Ghost has slam back inserts too its pretty close to the Standard but overall this has a little easier directional float. Jumps: Really strong pop on the mountain as well as a good board to hit kickers with. Final Thoughts on Jones Frontier vs. Mountain Twin The rubbery personality of the YES Standard is good for creating a nice protection layer for all that is happening underfoot when you ride. The lowest score was 70.7/100. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-190lbs), Peter (Size 8, 511 185lbs) Carving: Its not a dedicated carver but its got some good qualities. However, I still personally felt out of my element with the wider waist compared to the 2017 model. This is a great board for hard to icy snow. When you get the YES Standard on edge it isnt very satisfying turning experience. Also, we mention how much stiffer it is than the past year but our demo model turned out to be stiffer than the production models we have encountered. TheJones Mountain Twin 2012-2011is a pretty fun ride that many of us here at The Good Ride really enjoy. The fact that it is an intermediate/advanced board, this price point is standard, maybe even on the affordable side. When it comes to jumps you would think it wouldnt track well into them with this deeper sidecut between the bindings. 15 front -15 back. On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: This hybrid camber profile called Camrock has a nice balance between rocker and camber that gives you stability underfoot in all conditions and is very forgiving for those that skid your turns often or just want a more forgiving ride when you get off your game. Nothing exceptional but above average with a good wax job. The 2019 and 2018 Jones Mountain Twin are pretty much the same rides and the only thing really new for 2019 is the addition of a . Still the ride of the board feels a little more aggressive than its flex. I dont worry about making it through the flats but I do worry about weaving in and out around slower skiiers and riders when Im on this board. So when set all the way back with an approximately 22.75 stance widthIm 3.5 back on board which is pretty far. It starts out in the smaller sizes (149-153) as a board that is best for size 8-10s. Its nothing like its bigger brother theJones Flagshipor its cousin theYes Big Citybut it does a good job with most speed. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. Turn Initiation: One of the biggest complaints with the Jones Mountain Twin is the edge to edge transitioning. As the board softens up as its ridden more jibs do get easier. $439.96 $549.95 Sale. No obligation, but these links & ads support the site. It is a pretty stiff board both torsionally and tip to tail, giving it stability but also limiting feedback, feel, and fun. It is a solid recommendation for those that can only get one board and want it to do a little of everything. 162W: 10.5-12 Its the kind of edge hold that I really like because it performs well in just about any condition the average rider wants to ride. Its not enough to take away from feel of the board but just enough to make it feel damp without not being dead. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Set Up: Centered 23 wide 15 front -15 back. The stiffness was right between the burton and the capita but it wasn't as stiff as I expected it to be based on the websites 7/10 rating. Its a big bump down in comparison to the augmented camber of the YES Ghost which has the same shape and specs except for the camber profile. Kind of almost there with the Yes Pick Your Line. TheJones Mountain Twin doesnt stand out in any one category but its got a consistency underfoot in any condition or terrain that makes it pretty fun almost anywhere you go. Most YES boards have more camber and provide a more springy turn. I love it, it's a fun, playful and forgiving board. I kept thinking I would feel the tail act differently than the nose but it doesnt on groomers and I ended up riding switch a lot. It can also stop in the pipe and jump park no problem as well as hit some mellow jibs. It powers over chunder and tracked up snow pretty well if you size it right for your boots. This is a shame too because all mountain boards, like The Yes Standard, are bought more than any other model so it would be great to see a size to match most riders specs and stance width. It eliminated the loose feel you can have with the older Jones All Mountain Twin. The mellow rocker in the tip/tail gives it just enough to make it forgiving on semi-awkward landings. Turn Initiation and Carving: Same kind of turn initiation as before but just a little more technical and expert oriented than before. Jumps: Really solid pop and great for those who like to get big air. Approximate Weight: The only issue here is the Slam back inserts require a full size disc binding. Gamechangers, F.I.T. Now this is just a comparison between my board from last year and my board from this year. 162: 12-13 yes standard vs jones mountain twin. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag. Buttering: For the flex, you would think the Jones Mountain Twin would be tough to butter but its pretty easy and fun. It seems like it can float well but Im skeptical with the minimal mellow rocker and the only -10mm set back. If you are looking for a one board quiver this is why we recommend boards like this because they can double as a set back surfy freeride board when set all the way back and give you a taste of that directional freeride feel. Also, the limited stance width options might be tough for riders who prefer a wider stance. It has many similarities to theYES The Basicbut its a step up in tech and performance. So what Im saying is it butters really well and the nose/tail with that rocker flex easier than you would think on snow than when you flex it in the shop. What does that mean? You could easily call it aggressive all mountain or aggressive all mountain freestyle. I love that it has more camber than the older Nidecker made model but over the years of riding this board Im kind of wanting a little more these days. It holds through a carve rather well though. Great set back on board for powder. Its one of those boards that can wear many hats on the mountain. The board has more camber and only a little bit of early rise rocker in the tip/tail. So before the Jones Mountain Twin was bordering on the slow side of medium. I was thinking about getting my son a Typo. The YES Optimistic was probably the only other Directional Twin shape that did better in powder but that was only because it had a bigger set back. For example, the 156 was still slow for me at size 9 boots but it could have been a lot slower. Id say my only complaint with the Mtn Twin is the turn initiation is not that fast in tighter tree situations. Jones always puts out a board with a fast base. A mini disc wont work. The Standard is basically a true twin with basically a lower volume tail to help with float and likely helps it track a little better when riding your dominant direction. Id actually like to see them call this the Jones All Mountain. The mountain twin is $120 more than the other two, is it worth the extra price? Approximate Weight: Felt normal bordering on light. The Jones Mountain Twin, with blunt tips for reduced swing weight, provides a trick-savvy ride where a rider can pull up, grind a rail, and then hit the next jump with gusto. Turn Initiation: Super quick edge to edge and it will have no problem snapping around in any tight spot. Pipe: Its just the kind of pipe board a really accomplished rider will like but its not a forgiving easy ride for those that arent that strong. Even I dont have issues on mellow features. Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Adidas Acerra This is no freeride board built for speed but its very good for its shape and riding style. Many boards personalities change acording to the conditions but the Jones Mountain Twin does not and thats hard to do in this hybrid world of snowboards. We try to get as many images of the Jones Mountain Twin, but forgive us if they're not all there. It makes the YES Standard one of the better all mountain boards out there for powder. It powers through a hard turn well enough but doesnt have that ultra satisfying mostly camber carve either. A few things to consider here. Yes have put it down to a manufacturing issue so ive sent it back and went for a Jones Ultra Mountain Twin 157. Powder: There is a very good directional float when you set it all the way back at a 22.75 stance width. I have this years 156 jones mountain twin wide and its amazing. Even if you are a beginner who is committed to the sport you could go with this. It increases edge hold and improves turn initiation for a board of a wider width underfoot. When it comes to long radius turns the Jones is almost as fun. It would be fine if they had 62 centered inserts per binding but at 52 it minimizes the max stance width too much. Picks up speed quickly, very stable approaching and very easy/forgiving when landing. The base has good glide too. Camber Option: Camrock. Hitting kickers is very predictable and stable. So just to get a little into the techthe Jones Mountain Twin has about a 50/50 camber rocker combo and a set back camber so there is more rocker in the nose than the tail. It tracks really well into jumps too. A little bit more camber in the profile would make this more fun. For us the YES Ghosts extra camber helped to make it feel a bit damper even though it has the same flex. The Greats is meant to be a True Twin board i discovered that mines cae with a set back of about 2.5cm which would make this board absolutely useless to a goofy rider.
